I assume that by "these tools" you are referring to the DeDRM Tools, which includes a DRM removal plugin for calibre. You need that in order to import your Kindle book purchases into calibre in a usable form.

The Tools were created by
Apprentice Alf as a compilation of separate DRM removal tools produced by others. Responsibility for maintenance was later passed to
Apprentice Harper and then to
NoDRM, who maintains it now.
