The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes is
finally in the public domain in the U.S. This means that the Conan Doyle Estate can no longer
sue somebody who writes an adaptation where Sherlock Holmes is "too friendly."
Some people are already worried that this means people will rush off to create Sherlock Holmes horror movies (as was done with Winnie the Pooh). Or (gasp!) Sherlock Holmes erotica. If the 1970s could survive Michael Dibdin's
The Last Sherlock Holmes Story, we can survive whatever comes next.
