Taking Spanish in high school was an eye opener to me. I thought the teacher had a speech defect. It was the Castillian dialect he taught, while I had been raised speaking a more, "home boy" Spanish. A combination of English and Spanish in the same sentence, with a different emphasis pronunciation in some words entirely.
