But I take the whole story as a metaphorical reference to humanity choosing to start to "grow up" rather than have a deity take care of us all the time, which is rank heresy, so maybe you should just ignore me.

If only that were true, there might never be an argument about religions.
However, when you see the innocents suffer, and the wicked prosper, repeatedly, thru-out the ages, you kinda lose faith......
