Ugh, just now hearing the freezing rain start to fall. Thoughts for anyone who has to be out in it or worse, driving during it!
I just hope conditions aren't too awful tonight, hubby has graveyard and has to make it up a steep hill to work. At least it's no surprise to him, he's a meteorologist. He said they've got cots and blankets in the conference room in case anyone gets stuck and can't safely get back down the hill. At least a couple of his co-workers have been using the hotel near the airport which is on the same hill as the weather station. I've told hubby to do that if he needs to!
But several years ago, he already had one incident like this where he spun out getting down from our hill trying to make it to work for another graveyard shift, bumped into a guard rail and had to spend the night in his car, never getting to work at all. A neighbor with a truck and chains spotted him and got him back mostly up the hill, where it was literally too slick to cross the street. Another neighbor handed him a shovel to use as an ice pick to steady himself to make it to our house. We rescued his vehicle a couple days later after things had thawed.
I once watched a woman CRAWLING up our sidewalk in ice conditions to make it to her job at the top of the hill.
Stay warm everyone!
And merry Christmas in spite of the darn weather!
