As the Kindle was still running, however badly, I USB plugged it to my desktop machine, and downloaded all the Documents directory.

Then, in rank of increasing severity, I:
- Completely stopped and restarted it
- Rebooted it
- Reset it to Factory Defaults
- Ran Ubrick.
After the last two I loaded a couple books for testing, but none of those manipulations had worked.

So as a last resort I opened it, with the result you know, and after tightening a few screws I was left with reinstalling jailbreak, screensavers, and the contents of the Documents dir. ;-3)
