I have a test library, it's a shambles - over 50 custom columns, various forgettable templates, over fifty icon files etc, etc. I mainly access it via an instance of a Windows Portable install, which has at least a dozen plugins installed that I don't ordinarily use.
I created it in 2012 and it has never crashed since, despite half a dozen major upgrades etc. I try to keep it tidy integrity-wise by running Check Library on it every week.
It should be possible to create the equivalent of the Windows Portable install on a Mac, there's a thread somewhere for Linux.
