The Physicists' Daughter, which is the first in a new series by Mary Anna Evans, was one of my favorite mysteries of 2022. Which is a little odd since, although I like Evans' other main series a lot, I don't love it to the same extent. I am a little biased about
The Physicists' Daughter because the protagonist, Justine Byrne, reminded me of my mother, who faced many of the same issues at around the same time, and because, even decades later, as a female in engineering, I also (sadly) still had to deal with many of the same issues, although to a lesser degree. And also because I tried welding, but never managed to do it very well, so I'm in awe of Justine's skill.
But I also found the mystery itself to be engaging, and I loved the author's attention to the details of the WW II time and setting. So, now that I've really talked it up

, I'll add that
