I prefer doing things explicitly, so I am comfortable with my manual regime. It was seeing the --permanent option in calibredb remove that triggered my query.

Del keys are too adjacent to harmless keys like Home, End, PgDn etc, which is why I changed Del to Shift+Del. And I would never hide calibre's "RU sure …" message for Remove - even though under my regime its 'too late' by then - IMO it shouldn't even be an option.

If I do inadvertently delete the wrong thing I can get it from backup (which is updated daily) or File History which is updated every 15 minutes.

Another problem with the Recycle Bin is that you cannot put large objects in it. I recall removing a video book from a calibre library and getting a polite message telling me it was 'too big' for the Recycle Bin. So my regime avoids that one too.

I wouldn't object to MS making the Recycle Bin an optional extra :lol:
