*** UPDATE ***

I think I might have at least corrected most of my problems. I periodically copy all of my Kindle files to my computer as a backup.

Now, I hadn't done this for about 4-5 months now, but MOST of what I had on my Kindle was in that backup -- and I just went into my Kindle's drive and replaced all the files there with copies of that backup.

Right now, I'm watching my Kindle reload all the books that were in the backup *and* restore the setting I had on my Kindle.

THIS SEEMS TO BE WORKING OKAY.

I checked a few books and they are *there*. Also I often edit the covers for my ebooks for size and design -- sometimes I use an entirely different cover from the one that came with the book -- and those special covers seem to be there as well!

I'm going to have to add a LOT of books from recent months that weren't it that backup, but at least my Kindle seems to be functioning again the way I *want* it to function.

AND -- I am going to be doing a backup of my Kindle at the start of each month from now on!

Thanks to all those who offered there help to me in dealing with this!
