The thing is, even if the device bootloops there's always a way to restore it. Fastboot or recovery will most likely be accessible, if not there's forcing the device in EDL mode and restoring it from there. If all of those fail there's probably a hardware terminal inside the device or another way to flash the hardware. But those chances are pretty slim you would even need EDL so I don't see much risk in rooting.
When you root the device as described in the steps in the other topic you boot the rooted system image through fastboot first before actually flashing it. If the device doesn't boot you just don't flash it to the device.
