Technically it's a dog, but much smellier than any other breed inc. wolves. Even wolves make better pets because foxes are mostly solitary except they breed.

They certainly are stinky. They pong almost like nothing else, except wolverines and other feral carnivores.

It's one of the reasons that prior to the ban, they were (on horses) hunted--all things considered, far easier for the dogs to track than almost anything else.
