The return policy is why buying something you've never seen in person from an online retailer is feasible, and is what has made Amazon rich.

Assuming you're OK with the idea of jail-braking, then returning it because it doesn't meet your needs in that respect is no worse than returning it because it doesn't meet your needs in any other way: e.g., you don't like how the screen looks, or you don't like how it feels in your hand, whatever. Unless you're taking it apart and trying to solder in connections, then presumably you're returning it in as-new condition, and it'll be resold, perhaps giving someone a slight open-box discount. No huge waste.
