New to Onyx and just got a Leaf 2 ... some questions
Hi everyone,
Began my ereading experience around 6 years ago with a Kindle. Went through quite a few of them before discovering Kobos (which in my opinion are better than Kindles).
Had a Kobo Forma and loved it due to how light it is and big it is. But eventually the power button mushyness and a lot of reboots made me switch to the Kobo Libra 2 which i have really liked. The only thing i am not 100% on is that i would rather a lighter ereader. So i started reading about the new Leaf 2 ...
I then ordered the white Leaf 2 and it arrived a few days ago. Hardware wise I think it is the best of any ereader i have had. Very light, excellent page turn buttons and comfortable. A big part of reading is getting that right.
It has been quite a learning curve though in relation to the software ... the Kindle and Kobo are simple and easy to use ereaders that anyone could pick up and start reading. The UIs for both work really well mostly. They also both have large and active developer communities.
The Leaf 2 on the other hand ... has taken me a while to get used to with Youtube videos and reading a lot and going through the manual and reddit so i think i have got it to where i want it. I did try a number of the third party readers like Koreader and Moon Reader but they just didn't seem as fluid as the inbuilt neoreader so am happy to stick with that.
Just to confirm, i only bought it for reading books and that is all.
Just a couple of questions though:
1. From what i understand there is no way to get the image of the book on the lockscreen aside from downloading the cover and then uploading it each time before you start the book? (Looks like you can do this on the Koreader but i am happy with the Neoreader). It is no big deal but a wonder why Onyx haven't enabled this on an update.
2. The zillion light settings! The Kindle and Kobo have mostly automated switches for the light and it's one switch and it was pretty good. This seems to have a lot more and nothing is automated. Some people probably like this to fine tune it but i would rather just have it automatically adjust like the Kobo. I did download Gentle Glow which is pretty good but i really wanted something that would automatically adjust the light settings from day to night (it looks like the Gentle Glow developer has had this on this to do list for a while now). Any other options?
3. There are no Mobilereads developers actively working on much within Onyx? There appears to be a way to root the device but unsure what benefits i would get. I am familiar with rooting with Androids and patching the boot image etc but unsure if i would go down this path without some benefit.
The rest i have mostly worked out but man it is hard to find some stuff. I have spent hours on videos and manuals but it really is buried in places.
Thanks for any help!
