Funny search behaviour

When using the search box I get different results using ctrl-f and ctrl-c then ctrl-v
The ctrl-c/ctrl-v results in
Poirot held up his hand.

The ctrl-f results in
Poirot held up his hand\.

With the latter an extra \ is added.
In longer strings there could multiple additions.

Is there some way to stop this happening. Ctrl-f is so much more convenient.

Calibre 6.8 - Linux Mint 21.

Thanks
