I have done that and it adds the column into left hand area but it not letting me drag and drop books into them like the previous columns I made before 6.8.
Works for me, viz:

The selected books acquired their Genres by drag-n-drop onto the Tag Browser items immediately after adding them.

What OS do you use, I'm using Windows 10.
