SF author Greg Bear
died yesterday after complications from heart surgery. He won the Nebula Award five times (!) and won at least one Hugo. He listed Ray Bradbury as his biggest influence.
He was also a co-founder of San Diego Comic-Con and wrote the Forerunner Saga of Halo books. Some of his stories blended SF and other genres.
He also did some illustrations earlier in his career, including the cover for one of his books.
