From Miscellaneous... Turn on the "Sync reading positions" . This puts files with with "po" and "an" extensions in a Cache folder that have the same base name as your books. "po" is reading position. "an" are your bookmarks, highlights, and notes.
For the books, I use the DropSync app to backup and synchronize my book library.
