When running the
Reports tool, I occasionally encounter the "
Error: Failed to gather data" error as shown in the image.
It is not a recent error, and has been around even in QT5 releases.
It affects EPUB v3.0 only
I am using Windows 10
To replicate...
Open the "Edit Table of Contents" tool
Delete all the entries
Run "Generate ToC from major headings"
I normally add a couple of extra items, like Cover page and Title page
OK.
When you run the Report tool, the error occurs.
To fix...
Delete the nav.xhtml and toc.ncx files
Recreate the table of contents.
This seems to fix whatever the problem is.
When I run "Check Book" or "EpubCheck" before the fix, no errors are flagged.
Why do I delete the existing TOC? Because I have recreated the chapters and most likely changed them from a <p> tag to the usual <h> tags. Or I have added additional pages like Character Summary.
