I've mentioned this before a few times, but personally I skim the 1 and 2-star reviews just to avoid a repeat of Stardoc.

There was no indication from the blurb that there would be an explicit sexual assault scene in the middle of a novel about providing medical care to various aliens, and it disturbed me enough to have to put the book aside for a while.
