Every file I've emailed via calibre lately (which includes the author in the filename by default) arrives in the Kindle library with the author in both the title and the author slots. This is unfortunately by design since Amazon no longer regards that little hyphen in the filename as indicating that an author follows. It gets its author info from the file contents and regards everything in the filename as a title. You must have removed the author from the filename somehow. OR MORE LIKELY, Amazon is being inconsistent. That wouldn't be surprising.

NOW THIS IS WEIRD.

I always email things to the free.kindle.com address because items will only be downloaded over wifi. If I use the plain kindle.com address they can be downloaded to my Kindle Oasis using mobile data over 4G LTE network (I have one of the last devices that can still do that). But if the item is over 1MB I get charged 15 cents a MB up to the $3.00 limit I've got set. Amazon isn't very consistent about charging that but ...

BUT ANYWAY, I sent this same epub book (emailed via calibre 6.8) to both addresses just now. The one sent to the plain kindle.com address arrived with no author in the Title line:

Chesapeake (epub)
James A. Michener

Whereas the same file sent to the FREE.kindle.com address arrives with the author in both Title and Author lines. Same book, same file, same filename, different result:

Chesapeake (epub) - James A. Michener
James A. Michener
2.3 MB

WEIRD. That may explain why your epub also did not include the author in the title.
BTW, I always an (epub) to the title of books I convert to distinguish them on my Kindles from Amazon purchases, KIndle Unlimited books, and public library loans, or old mobi conversions.
