I've tried every imaginable option in preferences, with my limited knowledge. Won't go into that here since nothing really worked. Just to say if you set the preference for calibre to not read the metadata from the contents but simply from the filename upon import, and the filename has no author in it, you're stuck with author "unknown" printed in the new filename, and if email that through calibre you get "unknown" in the title and the author spots, not a blank.
If the author can't be removed from the filename in calibre's email process, then I'm just going to have to be resigned to have the author's name in two places in my Kindle library, in the author slot and as part of the title.
I can't be bothered jumping through a bunch of hoops to manually changed that every time I send a book. Additionally, I have recently found that every time I email an epub outside of calibre I first get an email from Amazon asking me to verify that I really sent that book, even though it comes from an "approved" address. What a pain. I don't get a verification request when things are emailed from within Calibre. Strange.
