I just emailed a epub to my kindle using calibre 6.8 the file name does not include the author name.

BUT THIS RENDERS CALIBRE'S "SHARE BY EMAIL" FOR BOOKS USELESS because Calibre leaves the author in the filename and does not remove it or alter the filename before emailing it. This is all done in the background and the user has no control over it (as far as I know). The user doesn't create the filename in calibre. So in order to send a converted epub to kindle one would have to send the email independently of calibre and attach the file to an email (after saving that epub format to disk in an easily accessed directory and then removing the author from the filename).

Can't calibre be set up to take the author out of the filename, or create a new filename for emailing purposes, before emailing a book internally. Calibre creates a filename; it ought to be able to change, uncreate, or re-create one at the emailing stage. It does so (even in ver 6.8) for news feed downloads that are sent by email. I tried that today and there is no "calibre" as author in the filename emailed to kindle:

Harper's Magazine [Sun, 06 Nov 2022]
calibre
101.3 KB

But for an ebook, the author is kept in the filename when emailed from calibre:

The Berlin Exchange (epub) - Joseph Kanon

Or maybe there ought to be an option in the conversion process for the user to omit the author from the filename, maybe via a plugin of some kind.. It may be "nice" to have it but for sharing purposes it gets in the way. Let the user decide.

Until Amazon updates its "Send to Kindle" to be able to send epubs (without changing the extension jpeg!), emailing through calibre is the only simple "sending" method. And even in the Send to Kindle app we may have to remove the author from the generated filename before sending.
