For good measure I added QTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--disable-gpu" to the environment variables which seems to help further, but it might also be wishful thinking

Anyhow, it seems smoother now, and it currently does not distract me anymore (until the next unavoidable driver/OS/calibre/and-what you-have-further on updates).
