In addition to what georgemk said, having the OS on the solid state drive (SSD) will make the computer boot and run faster. Access times for SSDs are much faster than from the old platter style drives. Larger SSDs can be expensive (larger here being more than 1TB - 2TB), so it's common to have a smaller SSD and a larger platter drive. That said, a 256GB SSD with a 1TB platter's
really crappy. You should upgrade the SSD's size if Dell will let you do so.
