It depends on what sort of changes are made. Most changes do not need to have the existing copy removed before sending the new copy. I believe even a ToC change can be dealt with by a ToC update (I'd have to double check that).

So to clarify, it's not necessary to remove the existing copy before sending the new copy even if you've edited the code. I've done this a number of times with no ill effect.
