The Clara and the new Kindle Basic are more similar IMO. 6" 300ppi, light weight, recessed screen. The new Paperwhite has a larger screen that's flush with the bezel and is heavier. I don't think waterproofing matters to most people.
The new Kindle Basic might even be faster than the Clara 2E (faster page turns according to booklover6). But the lack of warm light is a significant downside, so I think I'll pass.
