Organizing sideloaded library on a Kindle

Hi all,

Hoping someone can get me down the right path on managing my library on my Kindle Oasis.

I have a kindle Oasis I use purely for fanfics/documents. I have around 500 documents.

I used to have a "simple" library management system. I would create collections based on author names. I would transfer books from Calibre, have the kindle show all, sort by title, and filter by books.
This way, unread books would just be in "the root" for me, and when I finished reading a book, I would assign it to a collection, and it would "disappear" from where I was reading it.

However, over time, this system has stopped working well. Sometimes when I "assign the books to a collection" they wont disappear from my view, and I have always had a really hard time handling series, as I got no clue to the reading order.

Anyone got a good way to get organized and preserve a similar flow? Would appreciate it immensely.
