I have used since 2015 the 1.17 with no update problem. K4PC 1.17 was never updated without doing anything.

I guess this is because I use Linux and Wine to emulate MS Windows.

I use Wine 5.0 and in Wine settings I choose "Windows7".

Furthermore, I assume any update silently fails in this environment.

Perhaps a solution for Windows users : install Playonlinux on MS Windows

Perhaps It is possible with MS WSL 2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux).

Once Playonlinux installed, you can use this tutorial.

Playonlinux is a tool to easily install a Windows app. Each app is installed in a separate MS Windows or the same Windows. This is your choice.
