Thank you @Sirtel, that worked.

In case anybody else wants this...
  1. Filter your library to the list you need
  2. Click "Saved Search" and selectd "Add saved search". It now appears in "Saved searches" in the left tab browser
  3. Install the View Manager plugin
  4. In the View Manager plugin, select "Customize View Manager"
  5. Create a new "View to customize" by pressing the green + button at the top
  6. Enable "Apply saved search" and select the Saved Search you created earlier
  7. Enable "Automatically apply view" and select the view you created earlier.
  8. Press OK and restart to check it works.

To change to a new startup list, change the saved search under "Apply saved search"
