Thanks for the details folks. I've gotten my Calibre and plugins back in shape so I can read the books I buy where I want to read them - which will require side loading. My freebies are PDF's and public domain books from Gutenberg or mobileread (thanks for the conversions!). The Kindle email hooks work great for those but maybe I should just go back to sideloading everything - it works and I've always got back ups in a Calibre library.
I have a follow up PDF question. My Kindle Oasis has a smart crop - it zooms in a little. My B&N G+ has a dumb crop - none at all. So the text is the same size on my 7" Kindle as my 8" Nook. How does PDF crop work on Kobo both with and without KOReader? Obviously I'm trying to avoid modding a Kobo, but if the benefits are greater than the costs, maybe I'll give in.
