I show all columns and hide the cover in the detached (press I) BD, I show a subset of the columns and the cover in the embedded DB.
I mainly use the detached BD when I want to see what I have in calibre when I'm using another application. See attachment. If warranted I roll up the main calibre window and I usually park the detached DB window on top (via Actual Title Buttons). I use Roll Up because the detached BD will follow the main window if its minimised.
By having the embedded BD dockable I assume the need to restart calibre when it's moved wouldn't be necessary.
I'd be disappointed if the outcome of making BD, TB, CB etc dockable panels resulted in the removal of the detached BD. It's the sort of thing that MS do - e.g. ALL Win 11 taskbars SHALL be located at the bottom edge
