For years I've been using Plex to stream media I have on my laptop to the chromecast connected to my TV.
It always worked, but over the last couple of years they've added their own, free (?) streaming with movies I'm absolutely not interest in. Even worse is that the Plex app on the newer Chromecast with Google TV features their streaming service very prominently, you can't turn it off and you have to click through several "layers" to get to my own media server. I'm not the only one annoyed with this.
So it's time for a change. This afternoon I should have some time to install Kodi (which Plex is based on) on both my laptop and Chromecast and see if that works better.
