2012 - Kobo Touch (died and then came alive!)
2021 - Custom WaveShare screen with Raspberry Pi
2021 - Kobo Nia (screen broke last week

)
The Kobo Touch story is interesting; my dad accidentally dropped it and it became a continuously blinking blank screen, so we got the Nia to replace it. About a year later, I opened up the Kobo Touch to reuse the microSD card for something else, but pushed it back in "just to try once more" and it came on! Perhaps the fall had just dislodged the microSD card.
Now the Touch stays home with the family while I carry the Nia around, but last week it developed lines on the screen so I'm wondering whether to get something multipurpose like the Boox Poke 4 Lite, go back to Nia or Clara, or maybe splurge on an Elipsa (if it's as hackable as the others).
So far, I've been quite happy with Kobo's lineup, and the fact that I can swap out the microSD card makes me feel safe while experimenting, so I think it's something I'd ideally stick with for the long run!
