That requires you to keep a Bluetooth keyboard with you at all times. Having something built in is somewhat more convenient.
If I had my choice, I would not have ANY touch screen and use physical buttons for everything. It's just a better experience. It would add to the size of the device, but the tradeoff is worth it, in my opinion.
I recently bought an iPod with a clickwheel, and I find the physical buttons to be a much better experience than using my phone to play music.
