Sounds similar. We didn't watch it together, but my sister liked it and I didn't. In the spirit of finding something good to say about it: I thought the level of detail that went into fleshing out the cult (their history, their "bible", their deliciously creepy hymns) was fairly impressive. A bit excessive for an 8 episode limited series, maybe, but impressive nonetheless.

The most frightening thing about the show was the number of chin-dimples on the screen at any given time. It was like a convention!
