My best guess is that it is an improved version of print replica, perhaps with more features. Or perhaps a replacement for the fixed layout books produced by Kindle Kids Book Creator. That is long overdue for replacement.

Oh, amen, that is true.
What would be truly great would be a replacement for the
no-eInks-need-apply FXL format that we have now, of various kinds. When we hand-coded FXL, way back, it worked--Tablet, eInk, any KF8 or later. Now? Now if someone uses KC, or KKBC, or KTC, etc. it's an eInk NoFlyZone. It's a shame.
