Basically, the base model is now better in some ways than the Oasis. At least it is a good upgrade for people still using the Paperwhite 2 and 3.

Before you buy another 6" Reader, I suggest checking out the PW5. You may find you like the larger screen. I went for the Kobo Aura H2O (almost 7 years ago) with a 6.8" screen and I like the larger screen. USB-C and 16GB does not make the Kindle Basic better. If you are swapping from PW or PW2, then USB-C is not an upgrade to have as you'll have microUSB cables for the older Kindle.
