It's best IMHO to use the KindleUnpack plugin to shift KF8 to ePub. Then load the ePub into the editor and check for errors using Calibre error checker and epubcheck. In most cases, the errors will be easy to fix. If there are too many errors or you need to split HTML files, you can try ePub > ePub and see what happens.
