On a Clara? Hard to say, but it *is* on my dreaded "potentially flaky" list of NTX boards, so, who knows ;o).
Verbose debug logs might not be much help if it's an actual hang, for obvious reasons, but they'd be better than nothing.
When you mention that you have to reboot the device, do you actually have to *hard poweroff* it first? Or a simple short-long power press suffices, like a standard power on from off?
(Because, err, you might simply have autoshutdown set to a short delay and no dedicated message on screen because of your custom text).
