Now the weird question: Why can't I install the JailBreak-1.16.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.bin after the firmware update?

Look at the
following thread. It says that reinstalling the hotfix is not necessary unless you want to make sure it is installed. I would like to know from nijule if there is any command to be run on Kindle that informs if the hotfix is installed and possibly the version.

after jailbreaking 5.13.4 and that's why assumed I lost it. I just tried again to be sure, here's the error it pops up as soon as I copy the hotfix.bin to the root directory (it also deletes the file):
"Update Error

I also received this message in some of my past updates and if I'm not mistaken I reinstalled the hotfix through MRPI, I would also like to know from nijule if this is the correct procedure currently.

In any case I go into airplane mode now since without the hotfix I'm not safe anymore right? Thanks again for your help!

Don't need to stay always on airplane mode, just install
this extension and put it to rename OTA binaries.
