I've enjoyed some old Damon Knight.

I think the only two in the SF section shelves are novellas in one Tot paperback: Rule Golden (1954) and Double Meaning (1953). Has a 1990 intro by the author.

Rule Golden might be thought of as a Benevolent Alien story, but Double Meaning is the opposite!
