OK, here's the quick 'plain English' solution to this problem, if others running v6.3 can't make Library Maintenance work properly.
Uninstall v6.3 and install v6.21 in its place. (You won't lose your books.) Do a Google search for 'old versions Calibre' to find the download.
Wait for Kovid to release a Calibre update that will allow you to skip checking the massive FT database when running Library Maintenance.
