The folder and file names within a calibre library are arbitrary, the value in basing them on author names and titles (after Ascii-izing and truncation) is to make them comprehensible to the user should they stop using calibre. They could equally be the library database author and book table row numbers - e.g. Books/23/854/854-23.epub.

If you add a book that uses a non Latin alphabet in the author name and title (e.g. Cyrillic or Chinese) it gets transliterated to Latin, Ascii-ized and if necessary truncated -- e.g.:

So I guess what you're saying is that I shouldn't worry about the filenames at all?

One other thing though - if I do what I described above and just set titles to things like "Issue 1", "Issue 2", etc. wouldn't that be how they show up on my Kindle? I don't think my Kindle cares about the series attribute...
