Right. Nothing wrong with a Serial or a Series that has standalone members.
Anyone remember 'Ruth'? (I think that was an accidental character that all the fans jumped upon)

I subscribed to Analog SF&Fact for almost 40 Years. I read the likes of Pern, Dune and others in Serial form.

FWIW I still believe some 'Series' were never intended, the story just got away from the Author (or the fans sent death threats MORE)
