Honestly, I don't think cables should ever have been included in any sort of device. The point of standardisation is that we only need one, or maybe one in each location or something like that. Supplying a cable suggests it is not standard. If I had the chance now, I would buy cables so that the type was obvious. I would probably get different colours for each type (adding some coloured tape, if I had some, or something to the end is ugly). But, doing that now, when every product include a cable would be wasteful.
