That feature has been in calibre for quite a few versions.
The attached image shows the Highlight icon which should be visible when you will only view the search matches.

To get the Highlight/Filter toggle button you must check the
Show a quick toggle button to switch between highlighting and restricting results next to the Search bar option in
Preferences->Searching.
IIRC its default setting is unchecked.
