I feel your pain! I read a lot of Regency and Victorian romances, and it seems maybe 1 author in 4 can be bothered attempting to get titles right. It's not even a US vs UK thing, it's just lazy authors versus those who care - one US author provided a very detailed breakdown of the research she'd done in learning how titles worked at the very start of her book. That predisposed me to enjoy the book.
