I'm interested in this because I have a small problem editing metadata and I'm also on Ubuntu 20.04. So I thought I'd try Wayland - had never used it before.

Starting Calibre under Wayland - just about everything looks different. It did fix my little editing problem, but broke just about everything else. The editor became unusable, and certainly the docking problem is there. Trying to move the panels around just made an awful mess and then stopped working completely. It was making such a mess I did not try to do much. When I went back to X11, it took quite a while to get things back to normal.

Interested to see what you find, @rjwse.
