On my point of view, I doubt if Amazon is allowed to make my Kindle obsolete. I paid for a hardware that was supposed to read this format, and just because of their decision to no longer support MOBI, and their buggy software for EPUB conversion, I now have an obsolete product ?
In France a law is supposed to protect consumers against this kind of abuse, called "garantie légale de conformité". It applies to digital products like the Kindle since 01-01-2022:

Unfortunately my Kindle was bought in 2014 and this article protects new products for 2 years...but still I question Amazon's right to make my Kindle obsolete...?
